Lamichan was arrested in August 2022 on charges of raping an 18-year-old woman at a hotel in Kathmandu. Released on bail, he returned to the national team and participated in the 2023 Asian Cup.
In December he was arrested again and this time convicted of rape. The man’s lawyer said the decision would be appealed to a higher court.
The court awarded the female victim compensation of 500,000 Nepalese rupees, or just under 3,500 euros. Before the verdict, Lamichan enjoyed the support of the Nepalese public and has always denied the charges against her. The fans welcomed him loudly every time he took the field, but he also had opponents.
