A 15-year-old girl was married off in Uzbekistan

In the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan, a 15-year-old girl was married off, despite a warning from the authorities, Liter.kz reports.

According to the publication Podrobno.uzthe incident occurred in the “Ozod” mahalla of Denau district.

According to the National Social Protection Agency, in July 2025, the head of the makhalla and social workers learned about the parents’ intention to organize a wedding. They conducted an inspection, emphasized that it was illegal to give a child away in marriage, and issued an official warning.

Despite this, the wedding ceremony took place on August 10, 2025. The man who organized the wedding was fined for breaking the law.

At this time, the girl continues her studies at a vocational school in the Denau region. Her rights and educational process are under constant control of the relevant authorities.

The agency emphasized that protecting the rights of children remains a priority, and such cases are unacceptable.

According to 2024 data, the lowest level of early marriages was observed in Uzbekistan – 3.4%. Among the seven countries of Eurasia, the highest rates were recorded in Georgia and Kyrgyzstan.

It is also noted that in 2020 in the republic there was an increase in cases of early births among girls aged 13-14 years. About half of the schoolgirls who experienced early pregnancy and early childbirth grew up in a family without a mother or father.
