Index – Interior – The Ministry of the Interior has confirmed that Chinese police officers will soon be able to patrol Hungary

First, the German Welt recently wrote that a Chinese-Hungarian agreement was reached recently, which is similar to the agreement that Serbia and China made earlier. Under that deal, Chinese police were officially authorized to patrol Serbian cities.

According to Welt, the security cooperation agreement between Hungary and China would make it possible for Chinese police officers to patrol in Hungary (it should be remembered that in mid-February, Viktor Orbán welcomed Wang Xiaohong, the State Councilor and Minister of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China). At that time, Vang Hsiahong also met with Sándor Pintér, Minister of the Interior, and concluded the aforementioned agreement with him.

According to the German newspaper, all this may be related to the fact that

more and more Chinese investors and workers are coming to Hungary, whom the Chinese state still wants to supervise.

It is no coincidence that, according to previous newspaper reports, China had already established illegal police stations, so-called “service stations” in some – sometimes European – countries in previous years (hvg.hu previously wrote about the establishment of one in two places, Józsefváros and Kőbánya). such a station, but the Ministry of the Interior said at the time that they did not know about it).

But now the Ministry of the Interior has spoken

On Wednesday, the Ministry of the Interior gave an answer to the question of whether, according to the agreement, Chinese police officers can really patrol this country. In their answer to the Telex, they specifically wrote:

In the future, the police officers of the two countries will be able to perform joint patrols, thus helping more effective communication between the citizens and authorities of the two countries, improving internal security and public order.

The BM also added that the purpose of the cooperation agreement is to improve the security of the tourist areas of the two countries during peak tourist periods and generally during events that attract larger crowds. “The conclusion of similar agreements is not unprecedented, Hungarian police also help their Croatian colleagues with their work on the Croatian coast during the main tourist season, Austrian police have also provided joint service with their Hungarian colleagues at Lake Balaton,” they wrote.

According to their statement, the affected cities, the number of participating police officers, the peak tourist periods and locations will be determined by the executive bodies, taking into account service organization aspects.
