The Malagasy number one in ultra-trail will organize the second edition of the Tsiafajavona Trail Outing. In limited numbers, 60 privileged people will have the opportunity to savor the beauty of the third highest peak in the country. The Tsiafajavona Trail Outing is something else. This second edition, initiated by Jeannot Avotraniana, alias Alvine, will be held the weekend of February 7, around Ankaratra. Registrations are already closed and 60 trail runners will take part in this meeting, which is not a competition in the classic sense, but an outing dedicated to training and the discovery of new remarkable sites in the region.
However, the routes leading to the summit are not easy: 42 km with 2,500 m of elevation gain and 30 km with 1,600 m of elevation gain. No time barrier is imposed. Participants will leave Tana together the day before, on Friday afternoon. The departure will be given at 5 a.m., from the Ankaratra College football field, to reach the summit of Tsiafajavona before completing the circuit. The return to Tana is planned for Sunday. “ Participants are free, each at their own pace, and can finish up to 6 p.m. The route is marked and accompanied by a GPX track, no need to wait for others. There will be no finisher’s medal “, explains Alvine. Culminating at 2,650 meters above sea level, Tsiafajavona is distinguished by its breathtaking landscapes. The first part of the route still crosses technical forest areas, before giving way to green mountain ranges. “ I started studying the Tsiafajavona route in November 2024. Its altitude immediately appealed to me, especially for the uphill work, hence the idea of this first outing in 2025. It is a very interesting site and close to Tana. However, the number of participants is limited to 60 for logistical reasons. I kept the distances of 30 and 42 km, because no one is really interested in the 15 km », he adds. For the moment, Alvine is not yet planning to organize a real race on the Tsiafajavona, preferring to concentrate on this trail outing.
