Israel has hailed US President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan as bringing ‘peace and prosperity’. In a statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office welcomed President Trump’s Gaza peace plan on Tuesday (Nov 18), saying it would bring “peace and prosperity” once it is approved by the UN Security Council.

The United Nations Security Council on Monday (November 17) approved US President Donald Trump’s plan to deploy international forces to Gaza. This proposal was passed by 13 votes. No country opposed the resolution, but China and Russia abstained from voting.

We believe that (US) President Trump’s plan will lead to peace and prosperity as it emphasizes the full demilitarization and de-radicalization of Gaza, Netanyahu’s office said in a post on social media.

However, after the passage of this proposal, Hamas directly rejected the plan to form this international force in a statement. “International guardianship has been imposed on Gaza — rejected by our people and all sides of the resistance,” they said.

Hamas claims that any international force operating inside Gaza would ‘lose its neutrality’ and become ‘part of the conflict on behalf of Israel’s occupation’.

The organization said that even if there was an international force, it would only be on the border, monitoring the ceasefire and under full UN control.

On the other hand, President Trump termed the Security Council’s vote as ‘unbelievable support’. He said, through this proposal, a ‘Board of Peace’ will be formed, of which he will be the president.

Trump mentioned that the world’s “most powerful and respected leaders” will join this board. Trump thanked the countries that supported the initiative, including Qatar, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey and Jordan.
