XI calls OCS members to challenge Western hegemony

The Chinese president, Xi Jinping, called the members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (OCS) to challenge Western hegemony by building a “more fair and equitable global governance system.” XI’s call to his counterparts took place in the Council of Heads of State of the OCS in the framework of the 25th Summit of the Organization.

“We must continue to oppose unequivocally to the hegemony and the policy of power, practice an authentic multilateralism and be a pillar in promoting a multipolar world and a greater democracy and more fair international relations,” he said.

In this context, the Chinese leader proposed to create a “more fair and equitable global governance system” and stressed that the OCS “has become increasingly a catalyst for the development and reform of the global governance system.” XI explained that a new global governance system is necessary because “the mentality of the cold war, hegemonism and protectionism” continue to “torment the world.”

«The world is in a new period of turbulence and transformation, and global governance is in a new crossroads. History teaches us that, in difficult times, we must maintain our regional commitment to peaceful coexistence, strengthen our confidence in mutually beneficial cooperation, advance according to the historical tendency and prosper to the rhythm of time, ”he said. According to the Chinese leader, the members of the OCS must “defend the vision of a global governance based on a broad consultation and a joint contribution to the common benefit, strengthen solidarity and coordination, and oppose unilateralism.” With RT
