In the session held on the morning of this Saturday, February 17, 2024, the Cuenca Cantonal Council approved by unanimity reverse the loan.
Mayor Cristian Zamora, who had raised this possibility before the neglect of the sports scenepresided over the session.
Now Zamora has the power to take the actions he deems appropriate for the improvement.
The Economic Development Company of Cuenca (EDEC) will be in charge of the administration of the stadium.
In addition, the Council approved that the Azuay Sports Federation must cancel the amounts owed to the GAD and municipal companies that exceed one million dollars.
Start of negotiations for the stadium
The Mayor indicated that since Friday he began some negotiations with the private sector to carry out “palliative” interventions to the stadium because there are no resources for an infrastructure “that the city deserves.”
He indicated that one of the figures for interventions in a new infrastructure are public-private alliances.
In the next week with the Prefecture they will announce some stage improvements so that athletes can continue with training.
