British military ship repels Houthi drone attack in Red Sea

Yesterday, Saturday, the British Navy destroyer HMS Diamond repelled an attack by a drone operated by Yemen’s Houthi rebels in the waters of the Red Sea, the British Ministry of Defense reported this Sunday.

In a statement, Defense explained that the Sea Viper missile system that the ship is equipped with managed to shoot down a drone that was trying to attack it, without the ship or its crew suffering any damage.

“Yesterday the HMS Diamond managed to successfully repel a drone attack by the Iran-backed Houthis in the Red Sea,” the note noted.

“Intolerable and illegal attacks”

“These intolerable and illegal attacks are completely unacceptable and it is our duty to protect freedom of navigation in the Red Sea,” he added. Defense praised the bravery of the crew of HMS Diamond, whom he thanked for their mission to “defend British and international interests”.

In another message through his social networks, the Minister of Defense, Grant Shapps, assured that the United Kingdom remains “undaunted” in the face of aggression and reiterated that the British commitment is “absolutely unbreakable.”

The news of the attempted attack on the destroyer comes just one day after the fire was extinguished in one of the tanks of the oil tanker Marlin Luanda, hit on Friday by missiles launched by the Houthis in the Gulf of Aden.

The United Kingdom has so far participated in two joint bombings with the US Army against Houthi positions in Yemen to try to dissuade this militia from continuing its harassment of merchant ships crossing the Red Sea. EFE er/amg
