One more mortar shell was recovered in the span of a day at Ghumdhum border in Naikshyongchari of Bandarban. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Naikshyongchari Police Station Abdul Mannan said that it was recovered from Tumbru Paschimkul area of ​​Ghumdhum Union on Friday (February 9) at noon.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, an unexploded mortar shell was recovered from Noapara area of ​​Ghumdhum.

Locals said that while working in paddy fields near Tumbru Paschimkul BGB camp on Friday afternoon, they saw a mortar shell and informed the administration. Later BGB members came to the spot and took it into their custody. Two unexploded mortar shells were recovered in the last 24 hours. They are believed to have been left behind by BGP members fleeing Myanmar’s border security forces as they crossed into Bangladesh.

The OC of Naikshyongchari Police Station said that the BGB members took it into their custody from the spot when they reported seeing a mortar shell while working in the paddy fields.

On Monday, 2 people were killed in Ghumdhum area inside Bangladesh when a mortar shell exploded from Myanmar. On Tuesday, a case was filed in Naikshyongchari police station in view of this incident. In the early morning of the same day, several bullets and a mortar shell hit Syed Noor’s orchard in Madhyampara. However, there were no casualties.

According to BGB and local sources, some armed groups, including the Arakan Army, have intensified their war with the Myanmar military in the areas bordering Bangladesh and India for the past few weeks. They have collectively launched an operation against the military. In between they captured some border towns. In this situation, unable to survive the war with the rebels, 230 members of BGP fled through the Ghumdhum border and took refuge in Bangladesh from last Saturday night. Later they were sheltered at Tumbru Government Primary School under the supervision of BGB. 100 of them have been handed over to Teknaf BGB.
