The annual flu epidemic has begun. Last week, 70 out of 100,000 Dutch people were suffering from “flu-like ailments”. The number of corona infections, however, is decreasing. The influenza virus is just one of many viruses that play tricks on humans. What can you do to maximize your chances of escaping the invasion of these little invaders?
A cold can be caused by about 200 viruses. It is therefore not surprising that as an adult you suffer from it two to five times a year. There are ways to prevent coughing so frequently.

At the top it says: wash your hands with soap. This is especially important before eating and before touching your face. Keeping your nose warm with a mask or scarf can also help prevent colds. Finally, a healthy lifestyle in general helps keep viruses at bay. So eat healthy, get enough exercise and get enough sleep.

Much research has been done on the usefulness of supplements and other remedies. Conclusion: Vitamin C, vitamin D, echinacea, gargling, ginger, garlic and homeopathic treatments do not prevent colds. Only zinc can slightly reduce the risk of contamination. Some probiotics may have an effect, but more research is needed.
