Without knowing it, a student from Minas Gerais spent four days with a bullet lodged in his head

BELO HORIZONTE, MG (FOLHAPRESS) – A university student from Juiz de Fora (MG) remained unknowingly with a bullet lodged in his skull for four days after being hit by a bullet on a beach in Cabo Frio (RJ).

Mateus Facio, 21, was with friends in Praia do Forte in the coastal city of Rio de Janeiro early New Year’s Eve when he felt a blow to his head.

“It was all very strange. We couldn’t imagine what had really happened. The only explanation I found at that moment was that I had been hit by a stone. But we looked and found no stones on the ground,” he said. student to journalist.

The impact left a small wound on the student’s head. A nearby doctor examined the wound and suggested that the young man go to hospital if he felt dizzy.

From Cabo Frio Mateus left with his colleagues for Búzios, about 20 km away, to spend New Year’s Eve. The student then returned to Cabo Frio, where he remained until January 2, and still without hearing anything he returned to Juiz de Fora. The 308km journey was covered in seven hours, almost double the normal time, due to a traffic jam. And he also didn’t feel anything during the trip, as he says.

On January 4, after taking an afternoon nap, the student woke up and felt weakness in his right arm. He went to the hospital with his mother and tests showed that Mateus had a bullet in his head.

The bullet, which entered the upper part of the neck, was surgically removed. The student spent six days in hospital and is now at home.

“The doctor came to me and said that my son had something unimaginable. At that moment I was helpless. I thought he had an illness. I never thought it could be a bullet”, says Luciana Facio.

The student’s mother said her son gave a statement to the Minas Gerais Civil Police and that the company will contact authorities in Cabo Frio to continue the investigation.

Mateus studied administration in Juiz de Fora and passed the entrance exam for medicine in 2023. He has signed up for the course and is waiting for the lessons to start. “After spending time in the hospital, following the daily lives of the professionals who treated me, I wanted to be a doctor even more.”
