She decides to have a sex change but discovers she was pregnant before the hysterectomy

He found out he was in his fifth month pregnancy when she was in the final stages of the transition process that would have led her to change sex: the story of a young woman from Rome is currently making the rounds on the web.

A specialized medical team from a health facility in the capital is dealing with the case to preserve the health conditions of the unborn child: the health workers are trying to understand whether the hormonal therapies which the patient has undergone in recent months may have had repercussions on the condition of the fetus.

The path to change sex would have been started by the protagonist of the story a few years ago, starting from the psychological process necessary to see the so-called diagnosed and certified gender dysphoria. With the next step, that of hormone therapy, the patient began to have the first significant physical changes, with the development of hair and specifically the beard. Having undergone a mastectomy to remove her mammary glands, the young woman dedicated herself to the bureaucratic procedures: the Rome court then gave authorization to correct her sex registry and change her name on all identity documents.

When the process started a few years ago was almost over, however, the unexpected discovery arrived: in the hospital to carry out medical checks and analyzes aimed at carrying out a hysterectomyi.e. removal of the uterus, it was discovered that the patient was five months pregnant. The medical staff immediately took action to check the health conditions of the unborn child, with the fear that the hormonal therapies may have caused irreparable damage to the fetus.

“Once pregnancy is discovered, the first thing to do is to stop the therapy immediately,” she told Republic the Roman endocrinologist Giulia Senofonte, specialist in transition paths. “If the interruption was not immediate, there may be consequences especially in the first trimester, a delicate moment for theorganogenesis of the unborn child”, added the doctor, “it is difficult to think in the abstract: it all depends on the timing of suspension and the dosage of testosterone that the person is taking”.

“Hormone therapy blocks the menstrual cycle but is not a contraceptive. The person can continue to ovulate and, consequently, run the risk of pregnancy”, the expert pointed out in conclusion, “those who deal with transition usually recommend pills contraceptives that can be used during hormone therapy”.
