A wind that hit Belo Horizonte and the metropolitan region this Friday caused instability in the energy supply in the neighborhoods of Belo Horizonte and in the cities of the metropolitan region, such as Esmeraldas, Contagem, Nova Lima and Ribeirão das Neves.
According to Cemig, winds reached speeds of up to 104 km/h. Lightning also contributed to the lack of light. In the capital of Minas Gerais, according to the company, the problems are concentrated in the regions of the North, North-West, Pampulha and Venda Nova.
According to the Civil Protection of Belo Horizonte, between 5pm and 6pm, winds of 104.8 km/h were recorded in the Cercadinho station, located in the western region of the capital of Minas Gerais.
“Due to the force of the wind, large fallen trees were recorded, as well as objects thrown towards the electricity grid, such as parts of roofs and branches, which caused broken poles, short circuits and broken cables,” Cemig reported.
The restoration of service is expected gradually, between the end of Friday night and the early hours of Saturday (8pm).
