Israeli Health Minister Uriel Busso has canceled directives to hospitals regarding the treatment and care of injured residents of Gaza or Lebanon, who were evacuated by the Israeli army and transported to Israel, the ministry announced on Friday.
The Jerusalem Post newspaper reported that Bosso gave orders to the ministry’s director general, Moshe Bar Siman Tov, to cancel the previous instructions.
Bosso stressed that “there is no change in its clear policy of not allowing terrorists, as well as residents of Gaza and Lebanon, to seek refuge in Israeli hospitals.”
Friday’s announcement came after a directive was issued Thursday to accept treatment in Israeli hospitals for residents from the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
The first directive stated that “Israel’s acceptance of persons in need of care is consistent with the State’s obligations under international law and agreements.”
Israel’s health minister said in a statement on Friday that “the previously sent letter was drafted without his knowledge or approval,” explaining that “any requests for policy changes will not be considered unless after extensive discussions.” ”.
Regarding the evacuation of the wounded from the Gaza Strip, the ministry underlined “the complexity of the operation, as it requires safe passage, the assistance of the Red Cross and evacuation means.”
A report published last week revealed that “around 25 Hamas personnel captured since October 7 have received treatment in Israeli hospitals.”
