“The flu this year is very particular. There is a promiscuity with Covid and there has been a reduction in precautions, such as the use of masks, but we need to keep our attention high.”
So does the doctor Mario Del Donnodirector of the complex Pneumology operational unit at the San Pio hospital in Benevento, takes stock of the seasonal flu situation which this year has led to an increase in hospitalizations both in the ordinary and pediatric departments for respiratory complications.
“This flu is often underestimated and we find ourselves diagnosing serious damage caused by pneumonia or bronchopneumonia. Not only fragile subjects are hospitalized but also healthy and young people” explained doctor Del Donno who then underlines: “this means a lack of attention. At the first symptoms it is necessary to treat with an anti-inflammatory and then alerting the family doctor and subsequently the specialists”.
Then a warning: “Just because of a little fever, you shouldn’t rush to hospital immediately and you need to be careful when using the right drugs. No to immediately using an antibiotic without consulting a doctor. Start with an anti-inflammatory – concluded the director of Pneumology at San Pio – and do not underestimate the clinical evolution which must be kept under control with the help of family doctors”.
Meanwhile, the situation in the pediatric wards and neonatal intensive care unit is improving. After the boom of recent days due to the many cases of Bronchiolitis, the situation is normalizing.
