Loeb chases Sainz with another victory in the Dakar Rally

Dakar Rally on the ninth stage in the passenger car class for the fourth time this year and for the 27th time at the Dakar rally, Sebastian Loeb was the fastest. The Frenchman beat his fiercest competitor Carlos Sainz by four minutes and 14 seconds. However, Sainz is still the overall leader, 20 minutes and 33 seconds ahead of Loeb with three stages to go. Third again is Toyota official team driver Lukas Moraes, who won 3rd place last year on his debut at the Dakar rally. Benediktas Vanagas is in 10th place overall. Gintas Petrus (+14:21:01) is in 31st place, while rookie Vladas Jurkevičius (+72:56:18) is in 48th place.

In the motorcycle class Ricky Brabek and Ross Branch (+07:09) still occupy the top two places in the general classification, while Adrien van Beveren (+11:26) has risen to third place.

In the quad class The lead is still held by Manuel Andujar, who loses six minutes and 13 seconds to Alexandre Giroux. Lithuania’s Laisvidas Kanchus (+05:24:33) moved up to fourth place, while Antanas Kanopkinas, who loses more than 27 hours, is fifth.

In the Challenger competition the third today is Rokas Baciushka, but in the general classification Mitchell Gutre maintains the lead, having lost 28 minutes and 35 seconds against Cristina Gutierrez. Baciuska is fourth, 46 minutes behind the third-place finisher.

In the heavy vehicle class the fastest was Gerts Huzinks, who ranked only 12th overall. Meanwhile Martin Macik is still in the lead, less than two hours ahead of Ales Lopreis.
