As a rule, car manufacturers They tend to jealously guard the design of their new models until the date of its official presentation. However, patent office leaks, spy photos and media reconstructions make it increasingly difficult to keep the secret.
Of all the cars that saw the light earlier than expected, probably few have suffered as many losses as the new Lancia Ypsilon. And in recent weeks its aesthetic has been completely exposed thanks to the publication of numerous images of a pre-production unit stolen from a Stellantis center and subsequently thrown into a river in France.
Aware that there is nothing left to hide, Lancia filmed the Ypsilon launch commercial in the heart of Milan without even bothering to hide it. An attitude that contrasts with that of rivals such as Renault, which has just finished recording the presentation video of the R5, and not a single image has made it online.
In the case of the Italian, passers-by were able to photograph her body from literally every possible angle, so there will be few surprises at the time of her presentation, scheduled for the end of February. This was probably partly intentional, as the car’s appearance had been heavily criticized in previous rumors. Instead, the unit “caught” in front of the Milan Cathedral appears decidedly more favoredlargely due to the chosen color scheme.

The Lancia Ypsilon will be produced in Spain
Although the relationship with the Opel Corsa and Peugeot 208 is undeniable, Lancia has made a series of changes to give the Ypsilon its own personality. On the front the appearance of a black visor with a chalice-shaped luminous signaturean element taken directly from the Pu+Ra HPE prototype.
The wheel arches are black, a solution shared with the 208. Most of the changes are concentrated in the C-pillar, which integrates both the door handle and the brand logo into one molding. The rear boasts round lights set in a black spoiler, homage to the legendary Stratos of the 70s.
The new Lancia Ypsilon, which will be produced in Figueruelas (Zaragoza), will be available in both a hybrid and pure electric version. The latter will combine a 156 HP (115 kW) and 260 Nm engine with 51 kWh gross (48 kWh useful) batteries, sufficient to approve an approximate autonomy of 400 kilometers WLTP. As for charging, it will reach a peak of 11 kW in alternating current and 100 kW in direct current (20-80% in less than 25 minutes).
