Images of a hologram of Mario displayed during CES are circulating on social media. You can ask the hologram questions, after which an AI-generated answer will be provided.
Nice of course, but the hologram managed to attract attention mainly because it looked rather cheap. The 3D model’s animations weren’t great, and the Italian-accented AI voice seemed to produce little more than some ramblings.
The question was soon asked as to who was behind the hologram and it turned out to be Proto Hologram. This is a company that focuses on such holograms that you can interact with.
Concretely, the Mario hologram was intended as a proof of concept for a client, namely AARP, an organization that works for people over 50. Such holograms could be used to combat loneliness in that group.
In response, Proto Hologram said it was pleased with the interested responses from players around the world, while confirming that neither Nintendo nor AARP were aware of this specific Mario prototype. It is not known why the famous plumber was chosen.
So I guess there were more videos thanks to @raystrazdas
The AARP rep told me to ask Mario something about how to buy a game?
None of this makes sense. AARP? Mario? buy from Target? TO THE??
This whole experience was strange from the beginning 🙃 pic.twitter.com/mHiSElHsPj
