Mexican student killed in school shooting in Georgia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reported that a minor was killed on Wednesday in a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.

The SRE, headed by Alicia Bárcena, said that, through the Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta, it provides advice to the victim’s family, and that the consular representation implemented the emergency response protocol.

“Diplomatic personnel established communication with the family of the minor of Mexican nationality, born in the United States, who unfortunately died in the shooting, to provide the necessary support,” he said.

He added that The consulate is in contact with the authorities to confirm the health status and nationality of the hospitalized persons.and rule out the possibility that there are more Mexican people affected.

The SRE regretted the death of the Mexican minor and expressed its condolences to the family, as well as to the community of Winder.

“The Government of Mexico strongly condemns this act of violence and denounces violence perpetrated by firearms. It reiterates its firm commitment to protecting the rights of the Mexican community in the United States,” the SRE said.
