In the case of Mathías Olivera, who plays for Napoli in Italy; Ronald Federico Araújo da Silva, a defender for Barcelona, and José María Giménez, who plays for Atlético de Madrid, the resolution establishes a fine of 12,000 dollars and a suspension of three games.
To Sebastian Caceres and Brian Rodriguez, both from Club America of Mexico; Matias Viña (Flamengo-BRA), Emiliano Martinez (Midtjylland-DIN), Santiago Mele (Junior-COL) and Facundo Pellistri (Panathinaikos-GRE) have been fined $5,000.
The decision attributes to the players differently the infringement of articles 11.1 and 11.2 of the Disciplinary Code in the sections referring to “violating the minimum standards of what is to be considered acceptable behaviour in the field of sport and organised football,” behave in a way that “could discredit football and Conmebol” and “commit an act of violence or aggression.”
Marcelo García is facing a “ban from entering stadiums during competitions organised by Conmebol for a period of six months.”
Conmebol also imposed a “warning” against the Uruguayan Football Association for an infringement of Marketing Regulations and the Media of the Copa América, regarding the interviews that players may give on the field of play once each match has ended.
The document specifies that the measures “can be appealed,” which must be submitted to the Conmebol Appeals Committee within a period of seven days “from the day following notification of the grounds for the decision.”
The sports entity opens a file “to clarify the sequence of events and the responsibilities of those involved” in the incidents that occurred in the moments after the match that Uruguay played on July 10 against Colombia in the American city of Charlotte (North Carolina).
After the match, several players from the Celeste -among them Núñez, Araújo and Giménez- jumped into the stands to fight with Colombian fans.
