Among the evidence presented, the lawyers claim that “Human rights violations in Venezuela are not isolated cases, but part of a widespread and systematic pattern.”
The complaint, framed in the investigation called ‘Venezuela I’, also highlights that “Those responsible for these crimes hold high positions in the government, which indicates a state policy aimed at repressing dissent.”
The legal experts have gathered compelling evidence that they say demonstrates a systematic pattern of abuses that amount to crimes against humanity. They also point out that the victims include “women, the disabled, the elderly, indigenous people and other vulnerable groups.”
The document highlights the role of various state institutions and actors in the execution of these crimes, pointing out the direct participation of high-ranking officials of the Venezuelan government. The complaint joins other international actions that seek to hold the leaders of the regime accountable for human rights violations in the country.
The complaint includes allegations that the National Electoral Council (CNE) has been “used to legitimize fraudulent processes and maintain political control in Venezuela”in complicity with the regime.
