- Until September 1st.
- More information HERE.
Following the success of its four previous editions, Fundación Cultural Los Jaivas, together with the international music academy School of Rock, will once again award a series of scholarships for children and young musicians in the country. Thanks to this alliance, the beneficiaries will be able to access the quarterly music education programs taught by School of Rock 100% free of charge. This year, 22 scholarships will be awarded.
This year, the Fundación Los Jaivas and School of Rock Scholarship will maintain the possibility of in-person modality for selected applicants from the Metropolitan Region, the Fifth Region (Concón), and will now also include the Second Region, thanks to the opening of the recently inaugurated School of Rock Antofagasta. The students selected in the in-person modality will participate in the preparation of a show that they will present live in mid-December. In addition, the scholarship will maintain the possibility of remote music classes for applicants from anywhere in the national territory, thus expanding opportunities for young people from all over the country.
Regarding the needs covered by this scholarship, Mario Mutis – the historic bassist of Los Jaivas – points out that “the characteristic of having a long country, where everything is far away and so different in the north and south, but children and young people who want to learn music, generally do not have much access to places that can teach them. We have to create those places.”
To apply for this scholarship, which is aimed at students aged 12 to 17 from anywhere in Chile, interested parties must send a video playing a musical piece that shows their skill on electric guitar, bass, keyboard, drums or singing and indicate their motivations for participating and also have the authorization of their parent or guardian, and complete the application form.
“It is a unique opportunity that will help them strengthen their talents, believe in the story, break down insecurities and grow and be great in what they want to do” is what Octavio Villalobos (12) says, one of the selected singing scholarship recipients for the year 2023.
The young representative of the commune of Conchalí, Metropolitan Region, not only lived the in-person experience of School of Rock at one of its schools in Santiago, but also in March of this year he was a special guest of the academy to participate in Kidzapalooza, at the Lollapalooza Chile festival.
“It was an experience I never imagined possible. What I learned helped me develop and truly discover my passion for music and discover that there are no limits,” says Villalobos.
