Mali and Algeria are preparing to turn the page after a serious diplomatic crisis that interrupted decades of good relations between the two countries. The Algerian ambassador returned to Bamako on Friday 5 January and his Malian counterpart is expected in Algiers. Qatar mediates between the two countries.

According to Malian media, Doha has played a positive role in improving relations between Bamako and Algiers. Last week the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mali was received in Doha by the Prime Minister. Qatar proposes to develop bilateral relations with Mali and invest there.
Algeria’s geopolitical ally Qatar has attempted to reduce tension between the two countries by working towards rapid reconciliation.
