It’s better if I drive full throttle / Article

Germaine feels comfortable competing with Alpine skiing’s biggest stars and enjoyed the atmosphere of the World Cup, which is very different to lower-level International Ski Federation (FIS) competitions, when she arrived 12th in Kranjskagor, Slovenia. A higher level of competition and stronger competition are not a reason for Đermane to give up her skiing style and think first of all about reaching the finish line.

“If I drive at full throttle, things are better,” Đermane emphasized. “If I don’t ride at 100%, my running is worse because I hold back a little.”

This season, Jennifer also felt more stable in her training runs, which, along with her improved technique, gave her more self-confidence. This, in turn, allows you to feel more stable and confident even in top-level competitions.

However, Đermane was not satisfied with the end of the second race, moreover, she saw at the finish line that she had not protected the leading position at that moment. In the lower part of the track, near the finish line, there was a complicated arrangement of gates and the driver’s legs were already numb. However, as the competition continued, Jennifer ensured that many contestants couldn’t go any faster.

“I didn’t really put it together. [Trases] the middle section was very good for me, but the beginning and end somehow didn’t arrive on time. Correct contaminations, everything, like starting a spin,” Đermane described the second trip. “But I’m also quite satisfied with the result: it was a big surprise. I was a bit shocked, I still am a bit, but obviously I’m happy.”

The race in Kranjskagor took place in rainy weather and the track surface was not perfect, so the skiers who started earlier found themselves in a better situation.

In the second race the situation was more favorable for Jennifer, who started eighth, but the first race proved to be a much more difficult test for the Latvian, who started with the number 48 on an already ruined track.

The starting numbers certainly influenced the progress of the competition, Đermane admitted. She finished 23rd in the first race and qualified for the second race, where she placed fifth, moving up to 12th overall.

At World Cup level, 20-year-old Germaine hasn’t gained much experience yet, however, she explained, the course coverage and complexity are quite similar even in the European Cup stages, which also require equally high skill.

After the successful competition in Slovenia, Jennifer’s phone was full of congratulations, and the athlete apologized because everyone would not even have the strength to answer.

Germaine’s next start is scheduled for the weekend in the European Cup stage in Celamze, but she plans to participate in the World Cup race in another Austrian mountain resort in Flachau on January 16. A week later, Jennifer’s racing calendar also includes the Slalom World Cup in Jasna, Slovakia.
