Mariusz Borek is dead. The musician was the founder of the disco polo band Skalar. The artist was 50 years old.

Colleagues of the artist from the band Skalar’s informed about Borek’s death. “Today we received the sad news of the death of our colleague and former collaborator Mariusz Borek. Founder and singer of the band Skalar. We express our most sincere condolences to Mariusz’s family”, we read on Facebook.

Mariusz Borek is dead. The founder of the disco-polo group Skalar was 50 years old

The obituary published online states that the artist died on January 6 at the age of 50. The musician will be buried in the Łapy cemetery, the funeral will take place on January 9th.

Skalara’s Ireneusz Perkowski posted his memories from the band’s beginnings on Instagram. “I remember the beginning, when there were big projects, we wanted to make our voice heard. And we succeeded, all of Poland listened to us”, reads the post. “The first concerts, a new challenge, but we succeeded. We have a common history that will never die, we have our memories that will always be remembered. Then our paths diverged, each of us took separate paths, so it is state “It should be like this, it was written somewhere. We will meet again, where each of us is, and play together on a stage”, adds the creator.

The Skalar Group was founded in 1991 in Brańsk on the initiative of Perkowski and Borek. The group released their first cassette “Tell Me” seven years later. The material was extremely popular and the clip for the title track was recorded in New York, which further fueled interest in the band.

In 1999, Skalar split into two bands. Perkowski emigrated to Chicago, where he founded the band Skalar US, Mariusz Borek and Daniel Jaroszewicz reactivated the Polish group of the same name. In 2009 the album “Kochanek” was released with the hits “Żółty ananas” and “Ramienie”. Three years later, Daniel Jaroszewicz left the band and created the Skalar’s project.
