A former military police officer fired indiscriminately at a residence in Daruvarcausing five deaths and leaving several injured.
In a tragic incident that occurred on Monday in Daruvar, east of CroatiaAt least five people have been killed and five others injured in a shooting inside a nursing home. The attack was carried out by a man who entered the building and fired indiscriminately, local media outlet Mojportal reported.
Las victimsfour residents and one employee of the institution, were surprised by the attacker, a 51-year-old retired former military policeman from Donji Daruvar. The injured were immediately taken to a hospital in the region, where one of them is in critical condition, according to the Jutarnji daily.
The alleged attacker was arrested by police as he tried to flee near a cafe. Health Minister Vili Beros confirmed the number of injured and expressed concern about the seriousness of the incident. The Daruvar Prosecutor’s Office has joined the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the crime.
Daruvar Mayor Damir Lenicek told broadcaster N1 that the tragedy occurred in a private residence housing around twenty elderly people. The local community is shocked by the incident, which has left a deep mark on the small town.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic expressed his dismay via his X account (formerly Twitter), extending his condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. Plenkovic urged the relevant authorities to clarify all the details of this terrible crime.
