The 25-year-old man, suspected of shooting Military Police Sergeant (PMMG), 29, in the head during a chase in the Novo Aarão Reis neighborhood, north of the capital, on Friday night (6), has been on temporary release at the end of the year and was due to return to prison on January 4. The police officer is hospitalized in very serious conditions at João XXIII Hospital.
According to the company, the soldiers were chasing a stolen Uno when, at the entrance to Novo Aarão Reis, the car crashed and the criminals fled on foot. In the street above, the sergeant began to chase one of them. The entire action was captured by security cameras.
At a certain point, according to the prime minister, he ordered the criminal to lie down. It was then that the criminal turned, pulled the gun from his waistband and shot the policeman in the head, who fell to the ground unconscious.
In response, the other soldier shot the criminal who was hit in the leg and was taken to the Risoleta Tolentino Neves hospital where he was arrested.
The sergeant was taken to João XXIII hospital and underwent surgery. He was shot twice in the head and once in the leg, also hitting the femoral vein.
The 38 caliber revolver used was seized.
The sergeant has a newborn daughter who is just two months old.
