KVIFF 2024 | Ivan Trojan and his secret: He boycotted auditions

He is a magnet for the audience and already after the debate in the KVIFF park at the Karlovy Vary festival, the crowds stood for him. But for a long time, Ivan made a living only by acting in theater for a low fee and refused to go to auditions. “I was sitting in the Vinohrady Club in the Theater in Vinohrady and accidentally overheard an interview of a renowned director and costume designer. The director asked her why the Trojan isn’t it spinning? And she said to him: he doesn’t have a face on that camera, so my self-esteem went down a lot.” admitted the actor, who made his first film at the age of 35.

“I also had a bad experience with auditions. I came to it, the director wasn’t even there, I got the text right before that and I felt it was already decided anyway. And it will be played by Ondra Vetchý. I never went to them after that,” described his Trojan experience. He only learned film acting thanks to the series Chetnik humoresques, where he was again the second choice. Vetchý was originally supposed to play Warden Bedřich Jaré. “But he had so much that he couldn’t let himself be untied for so long,” Trojan revealed.

They didn’t believe him

David Ondříček then cast him in the first film. “He occupied Loners and he decided to go to Martin Myšička he’s going to see the theater. Which was a major turning point for me. He saw me there too and persuaded me to audition.” portrayed. But even then he wasn’t sure about Trojan because he found it strange that he had never shot anything before. But in the end he gave Ivan a chance. “I remember that at that audition I was sitting alone in the garden, I was completely nervous, and a group of young actors that I didn’t know were sitting not far from me, and Jirka Macháček came out, came to me and told me that he had seen my performance at the Disco at DAMU and had been to it seven times, and that it was there that he decided he wanted to do acting. I want to thank him,” concluded.

The prize of the President of the festival in Karlovy Vary is not a matter of course for him. “I appreciate it immensely. When I Jiří Bartoška he called that this was coming, it also crossed my mind that although I am 60, I am not old enough to receive such an award.” he did not hide his embarrassment. “But then I thought that if I’m getting it from people like Jiří Bartoška, ​​and I’m getting it at such a young age, then I should appreciate it. Plus, the price is the ugliest I’ve seen. I longed to have her, I believed that I would get her for some acting performance, but that didn’t work out. I believe they made the right choice.” summed up.

Fear for my son

After his painful experiences, when he had to get by with only a low theater salary for years, he is understandably afraid of his son Josef (23), who doesn’t even have a DAMU. “I used to call him something similar to what my dad used to call me. He gradually acquired a feeling for the camera, and now he even plays Hamlet in the theater and plays it well. After a while, I realized that he has a huge talent and I calmed down.” he revealed.
