Late German Goal Ruins Spain’s Win, Game Goes to Extra Time

STUTTGART – The Spanish National Team failed to secure victory in the quarter-finals Euro 2024 against Germany in normal time. After Dani Olmo opened the scoring for Spain in the 51st minute, Germany equalized in the 89th minute through Florian Wirtz. The match held at Stuttgart Stadium on Friday (5/7/2024) evening WIB ended in a 1-1 draw, forcing the continuation into extra time.

Spain started the match quickly and almost scored in the first minute through Pedri’s effort, but his shot was still anticipated by Manuel Neuer. La Furia Roja had another chance through Lamine Yamal’s free kick in the 12th minute, but unfortunately it was just wide of the goal. Fabian Ruiz also tried from distance but it went wide of the bar.

Germany hit back in the 20th minute with Kai Havertz’s chance saved by Unai Simon. The game continued at a high intensity and there were several hard fouls.

Spain again dominated the start of the second half and finally managed to score through Dani Olmo who made use of a pass from Lamine Yamal in the 51st minute. Germany tried to catch up and almost equalized through Robert Andrich in the 67th minute, but Unai Simon managed to thwart it.

Germany’s efforts finally paid off in the 89th minute when Florian Wirtz scored a spectacular volley from a cross. The score remained 1-1 until the end of normal time, forcing the match into extra time.
