Ronaldo-Mbappe Barren, Match Continues to Extra Time

The match between Portugal and France in the quarter finals Euro 2024 continued into extra time. The sharp duel between Kylian Mbappe (France) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) was not able to rip the goal.

Portugal started the match with a dominant possession, recording 57% possession throughout the match. However, despite having more possession, Portugal only managed two shots throughout the match, none of which were on target.

France, on the other hand, played more effectively in attack. They managed to get off three shots, with one on target. However, those efforts were still not enough to change the score.

One of them was in the 19th minute when France relied on a quick attack, a shot was released towards Portugal’s goal. However, goalkeeper Diogo Costa’s performance was so brilliant that he prevented his goal from conceding.

Both teams remained tight in midfield. Portugal had the upper hand in terms of passing accuracy, with a 94% accuracy rate from 287 passes, compared to France’s 91% from 226 passes. However, neither team was able to capitalize on their dominance to score.

In defense, both teams played disciplined and no one received a yellow or red card, even though each team committed three fouls.

The deadlock continued into the second half. Although France played Ousmane Dembele from the bench, then Portugal brought in Ruben Neves but the score was still 0-0 until 90 minutes. With that result, the match was forced to continue to extra time.
