The Paracatu Jockey Club, in the north-west of Minas Gerais, remained silent on Wednesday evening (3/1). That’s when the coffins arrived with the four young people who died inside a BMW parked in the Balneário Camboriú bus station on New Year’s Day.
The first two bodies, that of Tiago de Lima Ribeiro, aged 21, and Karla Aparecida dos Santos, aged 19, were loaded into coffins at 8.30pm for the wake. Shortly afterwards, at 8.40 pm, Gustavo Pereira Silveira Elias, 24 years old, and Nicolas Kovaleski, 16 years old, arrived.

Upon arrival, the coffins were opened, causing a commotion in the city, with emotional residents screaming and crying.
The funeral was scheduled for Wednesday morning. But, due to a complication in the transfer, he had to be transferred at night.
The funeral will take place this Thursday (4/1), starting at 8.00. Nicolas and Gustavo will be buried in Paracatu – respectively in the Cemitério Santa Cruz and the Cemitério da Colina. There will be a 30-minute break between the two burials so that family and friends can attend both ceremonies in the city.
The bodies of Carla and Thiago are now headed to Lagoa Formosa, in Upper Paranaíba, about 200 km from Paracatu. They will be buried there.

The young people were found in the early hours of Monday (1), in a BMW parked at the Balneário Camboriú bus station, after the New Year’s Eve fireworks display. The victims were identified as Gustavo Pereira Silveira Elias, 24; Karla Aparecida dos Santos, 19; Tiago de Lima Ribeiro, 21 years old; and Nicolas Kovaleski, 16 years old.
The Civil Police suspect that the young people were victims of carbon monoxide poisoning. The investigation aims to determine how the gas reached a toxic level inside the vehicle, compromising human health.
