There are several common mistakes that people often make when using it masker beauty. To know that you are applying this mask wrong, it’s easy. If you feel that your skin is still tight or even peeling after applying the mask, that means there is something wrong with your facial care ritual.
So, what are the possible mistakes? Quoting the Channel News Asia page, here are some common mistakes people make when wearing masks.
1. Using a Mask Too Often
Anything in excess is not good. Likewise for masking rituals. An indication that you have used a mask too much is that your facial skin feels itchy or even peels. Such effects are the skin’s way of telling us that our skin barrier is no longer balanced.
Remember, not all beauty masks are made with the same basic ingredients. So, pay attention to the ingredients of the mask.
Hydration masks are generally safe for fairly frequent use. However, if your mask contains active ingredients such as salicylic acid or clay, using it too often can cause irritation or inflammation of the skin. This is because salicylic acid or clay does have a drying effect on the skin.
2. Leaving the Mask on the Face for Too Long
Leaving your face covered in a mask for as long as possible is not the right way, but instead the worst thing you can do to your facial skin.
A sheet mask that is still moist is very good, because the moisture will help distribute good substances into the skin. However, when the sheet mask dries, the moisture on your facial skin will start to evaporate, making it dry too. Well, if this dry sheet mask is left on your face for too long, can you imagine what will happen to your skin?
Therefore, you should apply the mask according to the recommended duration of use so that the skin does not become irritated due to drying. Even masks with harmless ingredients, such as plant extracts and charcoal, can irritate the skin if used for too long.
3. Wearing more than one mask at the same time
You’ve certainly heard the term “double masking”, for example using a clay mask on the T-zone area at the same time as a hydrating mask on other parts of the face. This method is actually not good.
Clay masks usually dry quickly, faster than hydrating masks. As explained in point 2, leaving a dry mask applied on the face for too long will have a bad effect on the skin. So, it’s better for you to find out first what you want to treat on your facial skin. If you have various skin problems, you can use many types of masks. However, you have to wear them on different days.
4. Relying on an overnight mask
The function of an overnight mask is to moisturize the skin, which is used last before going to bed. However, using this mask does not mean that you can be free from other facial care or cleansing rituals at night.
So, don’t be lazy. Continue to clean your face according to your routine, then use a mask as your beauty ritual before falling asleep in bed. That way, when you wake up the next day, you will feel soft and clean facial skin.
5. Mask after facial treatment
Wearing a mask after facial treatment is not recommended. The reason is, after treatment, healthy facial skin will be more sensitive when “receiving” the mask. Ingredients in masks such as alpha hydroxyl acids, beta hydroxyl acids, and retinol can irritate sensitive skin.
