Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has nominated his younger brother Shahbaz Sharif for the post of Prime Minister and his daughter Maryam Nawaz for the post of Chief Minister in Punjab.

Due to his decision, debates and discussions are going on in the PML-N and on the national political scene. The supporters of PML-N have reacted strongly to this decision on social media. The trend of ‘Pakistan Ko Nawaz Do’ is also being run on X (Twitter).

Although there were already rumors that Nawaz Sharif would not accept the post of Prime Minister if the PML-N did not get a simple majority. After casting his vote on February 8, Nawaz Sharif had said the same in a conversation with the media that ‘national problems will be solved only when his party gets a simple majority.’

According to analysts, Nawaz Sharif’s decision not to become the prime minister came because his party could not get a simple majority. However, he has nominated his brother as the prime ministerial candidate. So they will sit back and monitor the federal and Punjab governments.

Maryam Nawaz said in a message on X that ‘not accepting the post of Prime Minister means that if it is being deduced that Nawaz Sharif is avoiding politics, then there is no truth in it. In the next five years, he will not only do full politics but also patronize his governments in the Federation and Punjab.

According to PML-N Punjab spokesperson Uzmi Bukhari, ‘Mian Nawaz Sharif is a kingmaker. Whoever lays hands on him is the Prime Minister and Chief Minister. The nominated Prime Minister and Punjab Chief Minister will work under his guidance.

Why Nawaz Sharif had to step back from the post of Prime Minister?

According to Maryam Nawaz, the people gave a clear majority in the three governments of Nawaz Sharif and he has made it clear in his election speeches that he will not be a part of any coalition government. Those who are familiar with Nawaz Sharif’s temperament know the principled stand of Nawaz Sharif. Shahbaz Sharif and I are his soldiers and will work under his leadership.

Analyst Hasan Askari while talking to Independent Urdu said that ‘During the election campaign, Nawaz Sharif was the prime ministerial candidate of PML-N. But when the people did not give him enough seats to form a government with a simple majority, he withdrew himself. But he still nominated his brother as the Prime Minister and his daughter as the Chief Minister of Punjab.

‘With both of them, the party will remain in power and Nawaz Sharif will also continue to try to make them successful with his supervision. Just as Altaf Hussain has been running the party by staying out of power, he (Nawaz Sharif) will also continue to run it.’

According to Hasan Askari, Shahbaz Sharif was nominated as the Prime Minister while in PDM because he has a better attitude politically and is also favored by the establishment. So he was selected in such a situation. He has previously run the government along with other political parties and institutions.

Talking to Independent Urdu, political analyst Sohail Waraich said that Nawaz Sharif should have become the Prime Minister in the way the country is facing economic and social problems. Even if there is no simple majority, his party is in a position to become the Prime Minister. The leader should have faced the challenges and proven himself by overcoming the crises like in the past but he has separated from the practical power.’

How successful will it be to sit back and run the power?

According to Sohail Waraich, “Although Shahbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz will also run the government following the instructions of Nawaz Sharif and in consultation, but Nawaz Sharif has got the vote to become the Prime Minister.” Now it has to be seen how Shahbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz will be able to satisfy their voters.

He said that Maryam Nawaz is becoming the Chief Minister of Punjab for the first time, before that she has no experience of running the government, so it will be a challenge for her to run the system of the province in a better way and solve the problems. Similarly, Shahbaz Sharif will also have to take care that Nawaz Sharif’s vote bank does not miss him.

According to Hasan Askari, according to the mandate given to Nawaz Sharif, he nominated his brother as the Prime Minister and his daughter as the Chief Minister of Punjab. This shows that he has made a formula to keep the party in power in the future.’

In his opinion, Nawaz Sharif should include qualified and new people in the cabinet just as he has nominated new candidates for these important posts. If they make Ishaq Dar the finance minister again, they will not be able to improve the economy. Because earlier also due to them economic difficulties increased. The situation is worse than before, and Shahbaz Sharif should be given a chance to form his own cabinet.

Uzmi Bukhari said that Nawaz Sharif has always given the opportunity to the nominated people to work freely. This time also Shahbaz Sharif or Maryam will have full freedom to work. However, wherever Mian Sahib’s guidance is required, he will definitely take it and should take it.
