RIYADH – The foreign ministers of Egypt, Qatar, Jordan and the UAE arrived in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to participate in the ministerial meeting on Gaza.
Upon their arrival at King Khalid International Airport, they were received by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eng. Walid bin Abdul Karim Al-Khereiji.
Saudi media said that Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah received a written message from UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, relating to the strong and close bilateral relations that bind the two countries and peoples, and ways to support and enhance them in various fields.
It was reported that Deputy Foreign Minister Walid bin Abdul Karim Al Khuraiji received the message during his reception at the ministry’s office in Riyadh, Sheikh Nahyan bin Saif Al Nahyan, the UAE ambassador to the Kingdom.
During the reception, they reviewed the strong bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them in various fields, in addition to discussing topics of common interest.
The Times of Israel newspaper said that Saudi Arabia is preparing to host a summit that will lead to a unified Arab position on the war in Gaza, in addition to initiatives for what was called “the day after the end of the war.”
Two senior Arab diplomats said that the conference will be held on Thursday and will involve the foreign ministers of only five countries in the Middle East that played a major role in facilitating talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
According to the “Times of Israel,” the unannounced meeting will also be attended by a representative of the Palestinian Authority as part of what the sources described as Riyadh’s ongoing effort to expand its cooperation with Ramallah, especially in light of the Kingdom’s increasing interest in strengthening its regional and global standing through the normalization talks with Israel that it is leading. Washington.
The newspaper indicated that Egypt, Jordan, the Emirates, and Qatar are the four participating countries, indicating that out of the six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, 3 countries will be absent: Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman.
She explained that the summit’s agenda will be topped by increasing pressure to cease fire in Gaza by using the influence of countries participating in the reconstruction efforts, in addition to possible regional integration that may include Israel according to the efforts led by Washington.
The two diplomats confirmed to the newspaper that steps toward “an irreversible path to an eventual Palestinian state” were one of the conditions that Israel had to implement so that the participating countries could promote regional integration and Gaza reconstruction efforts.
The Israeli newspaper reported that there were previous secret meetings organized by Riyadh with Cairo, Amman and Ramallah about the possibility of regional powers sending forces to help secure Gaza.
According to the newspaper, the meeting will focus more on reforming the Palestinian Authority and taking advantage of Qatar’s influence over Hamas, which will be able to survive in some way but will not be part of the government.
