Psychologists Request a Professional Law – Last Minute

(ANKARA)- Former Turkish Psychologists Association (TPD) President Gökhan Malkoç stated that although professional organizations are approaching their 50th anniversary, they still do not have a professional law and said, “Unscientific information is being spread on television channels and social media; many segments of the public are being exploited financially and morally. These problems are still a profession.” “It’s because we don’t have a law and a chamber,” he said.

Former TPD President Gökhan Malkoç made a written statement regarding the problems experienced by psychologists and the lack of professional law. Malkoc said:

“Since the interest in psychology and the profession of psychology has increased in recent years, we graduate thousands of graduates every year. We have tens of thousands of psychologists who try to do their profession with ethical awareness and dedication. Our colleagues not only serve in the workplaces they are affiliated with, but also work hard as volunteers in disaster areas. However, both public and public Our colleagues working in institutions and in the private sector are subjected to many rights violations. In addition, fake psychologists undermine the trust in our field and pose a serious threat to public health.

Unscientific information is being spread on television channels and social media; Many segments of the population are exploited financially and morally. These problems arise from the fact that we still do not have a professional law and chamber.

If our professional law is passed and we become a chamber, the rights of both psychologists and service recipients will be protected. The 34th Ordinary General Assembly will be held in Ankara on June 29. The only condition for the passage of the law is that thousands of Psychology graduates unite and form power within our association. For this reason, I call on our colleagues to become members of our association and share in this power, to participate in the general assembly and to use their right to vote and speak.”
