After the ‘goat incident’ came to the discussion, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) officer (Customs and VAT) Dr. Md. Motiur Rahman has been instructed to remove from the board of directors of Sonali Bank by the Ministry of Finance. At the same time, it is recommended to appoint Mohammad Abu Yusuf, Additional Secretary of the Finance Department of the Ministry of Finance, as a director in his place.
Two separate letters from the Ministry of Finance’s Financial Institutions Division on Monday (June 24) recommended the removal of Matiur Rahman and the appointment of Abu Yusuf as the new director.
According to the letter of appointment, Additional Secretary of Finance Department Mohammad Abu Yusuf is requested to be appointed as a director in the board of directors of Sonali Bank Plc for a period of three years from the date of joining as per the provisions of the Bank Companies Act, 1991 with the approval of Bangladesh Bank.
The letter requested the Financial Institutions Department to compulsorily inform the Financial Institutions Department of the date of joining the Board of Directors of Sonali Bank as Director of Mohammad Abu Yusuf.
On the other hand, Motiur said in the removal letter, Dr. Md. Motiur Rahman was requested to take necessary action in this regard with the recommendation to remove him from the board of directors of Sonali Bank.
Earlier, Matiur Rahman was removed from the post of President of Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal. BCS (Customs and Excise) cadre officer Suresh Chandra Biswas has been given additional charge in his place. He is Member (Technical) of Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal.
Instructions have been issued by the Department of Internal Resources of the Ministry of Finance giving Suresh Chandra Biswas additional charge as President of the Tribunal. According to the instructions signed by Deputy Secretary Makima Begum, the additional in-charge employees will get duty allowance at the rates and conditions specified in the order issued by the Finance Department from time to time. An officer with additional charge shall necessarily add the words ‘additional charge’ to the post of additional charge.
Meanwhile, Matiur Rahman was removed and attached to the Internal Resources Department, but there is no separate room for him in the ministry. He doesn’t even have a chair-table to sit on. He did not even go to the Ministry after being attached to the Internal Resources Department. But sent the joining letter through another person.
Matiur Rahman was last seen in a private television interview on the second day of Eid (June 18) after coming to the discussion in the goat incident. After that, he was searched in various residences of Motiur including Bashundhara, Dhanmondi but could not find him. Even after the Eid al-Adha holiday, he did not go to the NBR office again. Rumor has it, Matiur left the country through Akhaura land port on Sunday (June 23) afternoon and left for India.
After that, according to the plan, Matiur Rahman can leave for Dubai directly from India. An influential syndicate assisted him in his exodus.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has constituted a three-member team to begin investigating allegations of corruption and illegal acquisition of wealth.
