DHAKA – Asia, as one of the largest continents in the world, experiences wide climate variations, including extreme temperatures that have set new records.

In 2023, several Asian countries faced record-breaking heat waves, marking the year as one of the hottest in recorded history.

In Japan, summer 2023 will be the hottest ever with temperatures peaking at 40.0°C in some cities. This not only shows an increase in global average temperatures, but also highlights the increasingly obvious impacts of climate change.

So what about temperatures in other countries in Asia? Here is a list of countries in Asia that have recorded extreme temperatures:

1. Bangladesh

Dhaka recorded its highest maximum temperature in decades on April 15, 2023 with 40.6°Celsius.

2. India

Several cities in the north and east recorded maximum temperatures above 44°C on April 18, 2023.

3. Iran

Geographically, Iran is located in West Asia and borders the Caspian Sea, Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.

As part of the Asian continent, Iran holds the record for the hottest temperature in Asia, recording 54°C (129°F) in 2017.

4. Kuwait

Kuwait is located in West Asia, at the northern tip of East Arabia at the head of the Persian Gulf, bordering Iraq to the north and Saudi Arabia to the south.

The country recorded record high temperatures in 2016, with temperatures reaching 53.9°C (129°F), which was a new record for Asia and the Middle East.
