Paraguay achieves adherence to the seed certification scheme

Paraguay achieved accession to the seed certification scheme of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), after having approved all the requirements established by the international organization.

The realization of this achievement occurred after the defense of Paraguay’s application for membership in the OECD scheme, within the framework of the organization’s annual meeting that was held in the city of Nice, France, where representatives of the Directorate of Semillas, who accompanied the process.

After years of preparation, mainly in terms of compliance with the years of experience in carrying out pre- and post-control tests on certified lots, examination of Distinction, Homogeneity and Stability (DUS) in soybeans and wheat, the Paraguay’s accession to the Grass and Legume Seed Scheme and the Cereal Seed Scheme, for soybeans and wheat, respectively.

The Director of Seeds of the National Service of Plant and Seed Quality (Senave), Ing. Agr. Santiago Benítez highlighted the importance of this achievement. He said this acceptance will allow the country to produce soybean and wheat seeds under an international certification framework.
