Who lost and won what in the June 9 election? – 2024-06-17 09:43:54

Voter turnout in Sunday’s elections for MPs and MEPs was only 34.41%, the CEC announced. For comparison – in the parliamentary vote in April 2023, the turnout was 40.69%.

Already on election night, it was clear that the expectations of sociologists for a significantly higher turnout did not come true. In addition, however, the main parties have a serious outflow of voters, but there are still some that are increasing their support.

With 100% processed protocols from the sectional committees, it is already clear that 7 political forces will certainly enter the parliament. These are GERB, DPS, PP-DB, “Vazrazhdane”, BSP, ITN and “Velichie”, which surprised the sociological agencies.

The results show that they have lost the largest percentage of support they had a little over a year ago to PP-DB. In the parliamentary elections in 2023, 621,069 people voted for the unification, while now 307,848 citizens supported it. That is, in a little more than a year, the formation has lost 313 thousand (50.4%) of its voters. The weak result of the coalition led to the resignation of the chairman of “Yes, Bulgaria” and co-chairman of “Democratic Bulgaria”, Hristo Ivanov, who also gave up his seat in the next parliament.

The bad results also led to the resignation of Cornelia Ninova as chairperson of the BSP. On June 9, the Socialists received 151,557 votes, which is 74,357 or 32.9% fewer voters than in the parliamentary elections in 2023, when 225,914 people voted for them.

Although in the vote on Sunday GERB won the first place with a lead of 7% over DPS, Boyko Borisov’s party has lost 20.8% of its voters compared to the elections in April 2023. Then GERB was supported by nearly 670 thousand people, while in the elections on June 9, 530,602 voted for them. This is a loss of 139,332 votes.

By 17.4%, the voters of “Vazrazhdane” are decreasing. In the previous elections, the party of Kostadin Kostadinov won 358,174 of the votes of the citizens, and in the vote on Sunday they were supported by 295,915 voters. That’s 62,259 votes short.

However, the 50th National Assembly also includes political forces that increase support for themselves.

ITN voters increased by 23.1% compared to the vote on April 2, 2023. Then the party of showman Slavi Trifonov narrowly passed the electoral threshold, thanks to the support of 103,971 voters. In the elections on Sunday, however, they were supported by 127,986 people, which is 24,000 more votes.

DPS managed to become the second political force, increasing its support in absolute terms, albeit slightly. In the vote on June 9, DPS received the support of 366,562 voters, which is an increase of 5.5% on the vote they received in April 2023 – 347,700.

The seventh political force in the future parliament is Velichie, which was not registered to vote in April 2023. It is the first participation in parliamentary elections for the formation. The party of the owner of the “Historical Park” Ivelin Mihailov and the popular TikTok and YouTube “Colonel” Nikolay Markov secured the support of 99,852 voters, which was enough to receive 4.65% of the vote and secure a seat in the National Assembly.
