The ones that filled the coffers the most so far were the two winning games of 2021, which shared the prize of R$378.1 million – R$189 million each.

Since the first edition, in 2009, three draws have had the lowest distribution, with prizes split between two winners:

  • 2009 – two bets split R$144.9 million
  • 2020 – two bets split R$325.2 million
  • 2021 – two bets split R$378.1 million

On the other hand, Mega da Virada’s largest split took place in 2018, when 52 bets were successful for a prize of R$302.5 million. Each winner received “only” R $ 5.8 million.

What are the chances of winning the jackpot?

Mega da Virada: How is the prize calculated and what are the chances of winning?

It depends on the number of numbers played. With a bet on six numbers, for example, the probability of winning the top prize is one in more than 50 million, according to Caixa Econômica Federal. With 20 numbers, the odds rise to one in 1,292.

Why doesn’t Mega da Virada stack?

Unlike the Mega-Sena and other contests, the Mega da Virada does not accumulate. This means that the prize is paid even if no bettor manages to match all six tens.

In practice, therefore, if there is no winner in the first bracket (six dozen), the value passes to the winners of the second – and so on. The division is this:
