This attack only came a day after a Kyiv drone attack hit Moscow’s Su-57 stealth fighter jet at an airfield in Russia on Saturday last week.
Ukraine’s General Staff said Monday’s missile strikes successfully hit an advanced S-400 missile system in Dzhankoi and two S-300 systems near Yevpatoriya and Chornomorske. “Which resulted in significant losses for Russia’s air defense,” the Ukrainian General Staff was quoted as saying ReutersTuesday (11/6/2024).
This statement could not be independently verified.
There was no immediate comment from the Russian Defense Ministry. However, local Telegram channels reported explosions near Dzhankoi and Yevpatoriya.
Ukraine’s military said its strikes disabled the Russian missile defense system’s radar and detonated munitions in the region.
“None of our missiles could be intercepted by the enemy’s ‘highly effective’ air defenses,” the Ukrainian General Staff said via its Telegram account.
Russia has repeatedly fired ballistic missiles into southern Ukraine from the Moscow-controlled Crimea peninsula since 2014.
Over the past two years of Russia’s massive invasion, Ukraine has carried out several air and naval attacks against Russian targets on the peninsula and caused significant damage to Moscow’s fleet in the Black Sea.
