The caretaker government will allocate BGN 1 million for retrofitting the medical helicopter – 2024-06-10 00:45:37

The caretaker government will allocate up to BGN 1 million for additional equipment for the medical helicopter with an incubator for newborns, mountain equipment and equipment for continuous supply of oxygen to the stationary ambulance. This was announced by Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev on Friday during a visit to the “Border Police” airbase at Sofia Airport in connection with the capabilities of the air emergency medical assistance system (HEMS).

This week’s medical helicopter is already performing real-life missions to provide emergency medical assistance to patients and has already responded to two calls.

“From the very beginning, we said that the HEMS system is mainly for saving human lives of victims of accidents, of donor situations, and mountain rescue is “by the way”, because the cases in the mountains are far less than in accidents”. commented the acting prime minister.

Acting Health Minister Dr. Galya Kondeva said that they received many inquiries during the last two flights and before that from specialists of specialized children’s facilities. Letters have been received from “Pirogov” in connection with the fact that the helicopter does not have a built-in incubator.

“When the patient is taken out to be taken in the respective ambulance to the medical facility, the equipment built into the helicopter cannot be used, and that is why we need an oxygen therapy system for the moment from the helicopter to the ambulance that will transport him,” Kondeva also said .

“We see that the number of injuries in the mountains is increasing significantly. The helicopter is prepared for mountain rescue, there are options to use this type of equipment for mountain rescue, which is available and agreed in the next two helicopters,” said Kondeva.

As it has already become clear, the first helicopter delivered to our country does not have a winch in the equipment under the contract with the Italian company “Leonardo”.

Otherwise, the director of the Mountain Rescue Service (MSS) explained that the medical helicopter can land in the mountains and the coordinates of landing sites are being prepared.

“Very often the cases are in such a place that it is necessary to quickly and urgently evacuate the victim and this can only be done with a winch”Neshev explained.

“It doesn’t matter if tourists have insurance or not. Emergency care in Bulgaria is free for everyone, so we don’t talk about insurance and payment in any way”he also said.

The PSS has a sufficient number of mountain rescuers – over 530 volunteers throughout the country, of which only 47 are full-time, all of them are impeccably prepared and ready to work with helicopters, Neshev pointed out.
