The President of Russia undoubtedly aggravated the situation by threatening to supply long-range weapons to other countries that can deliver sensitive strikes to the countries arming Ukraine against Russia. Ukraine’s arms suppliers are known: the United States, France, Germany, Great Britain, a number of European countries that are members of NATO. And it is excluded that one of them will receive “Kinzhal” missiles from Russia to hit the sensitive points of the other.
The times are not the same, and even the “Island of Freedom” Cuba will not accept Russian missiles against the United States. Vladimir Putin’s statement in a very specific sense is even a retreat. a few months ago, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov threatened that preventive strikes would be made on the infrastructure of the countries that supply arms to Ukraine, considering them as “legitimate targets” for Russia.
Russia has done what was possible. Belarus has deployed tactical nuclear weapons, but apparently the US and NATO have calculated that Putin will not “press the nuclear button”. That would be crazy. The Russian president is certainly well aware that no country in the world will turn into a NATO target for the sake of Moscow’s victory in Ukraine, and will not even want to complicate relations with the United States, the North Atlantic Alliance.
There are, of course, countries that object to sanctions against Russia or accuse NATO of “unleashing” the Ukrainian war. but it is beyond imagination that, let’s say, Hungary will agree to accept Russian missiles in order to threaten Germany, which supplies tanks to Ukraine.
What is the meaning of Putin’s statement? Is he trying to stop the supply of weapons to Ukraine by threatening Europe with a nuclear strike? Everyone should take into account with us, with our position, – Kremlin spokesman Peskov commented on his statement. But what is that point of view, the position? The legitimization of territorial acquisitions in Ukraine or the fact that the state of Ukraine “does not exist”? Is Moscow guided by the principle of “demand the maximum in order to get the possible” or is it really going to the ultimate va-bank?
