Jan Kačer and Nina Divíšková: 60 years of love and suffering

They met during their studies at DAMU, got married in 1962 and had three daughters – Simona, Klára and Adéla. At that moment, as a family, they began to struggle with a lack of money.

For ten years, he only saw his family on weekends and Divíšková so, in addition to her acting work, she had to manage the entire household and take care of her offspring all by herself. “She did a miracle that I would never have been able to do in her place: Feed those children. We were never hungry, it was always clean, washed. She never read anything to me,” Kačer admitted admiringly.

Alzheimer’s disease

However, the couple had to deal with debts and subsequent foreclosures, when the family properties were threatened. The duck even fell ill from worry. Then there were a few years of sunshine until a cloud came. Divíšková became ill with Alzheimer’s disease, which gradually deprived her of her beloved theater and film roles.

She last appeared in front of the camera in 2016 in a film Husband for an hour. And since there is no cure for Alzheimer’s, Kačer only had to watch helplessly as his beloved woman changed into an unknown form right before his eyes.

He has been fighting adversity for years.

Death as liberation

“I hate this disease. I like Nina more and more. The thinner she is, the more I like her. But signs of illness, selfish cries and commands: Give me beer, give me a cigarette! And how she repeats herself, how she forgets… It makes me so mad that sometimes I even yell at her. I try to get to the essence of her personality, to the noble, classy girl she used to be and surely wants to continue to be. At that moment I don’t want to believe that she is sick. We pay for life,” he confided in Kačer in 2016.

And when Nina died in 2021, the actor did not grieve at all. He took it as a release for his beloved Nina and for the whole family. Now somewhere up there they must have met again.
