Dário Essugo, became national champion this Tuesday (11), with Sporting Clube de Portugal, breaking the club’s record for the youngest person to achieve this feat, at just 16 years old.

The Luso-Angolan player was one of the highlights of the Leonine party and this season’s squad, which was one of the youngest ever registered in the Portuguese League.

In an interview with the club’s television, during Lisbon’s title celebration, the young footballer said he was living the biggest dream of his life, with winning the championship in his short career.

“If they told me at the beginning of the season that I would be here today and that I would be champion, I would never believe it”, he declared.

He also highlighted the fact that he was celebrating the title alongside João Pereira, a 37-year-old teammate, who already sponsored a youth football tournament in which Essugo played.

Essugo has played in one match so far in the Liga NOS, which marked his debut in the main team on March 20th, against Vitória SC, six days after turning 16 years old.
