Alto Paraná: protest by cassava producers continues due to price increase

SANTA FE. In the midst of a scene of protests that extend along the routes of Alto Paraná, cassava producers continue to demand a base price of 1,000 guaraníes per kilo of the product. This demand, which led to mobilizations and road closures since the beginning of the week, responds to farmers’ dissatisfaction with the low prices they receive for their harvest.

The producers argue that they currently only receive 300 guaraníes per kilo on the farms, while in supermarkets the price can reach up to 5,000 guaraníes for the same product. This economic disparity generates obvious discomfort among those who grow cassava, who consider it unfair that middlemen obtain much greater profits than themselves.

In Santa Fe del Paraná, farmers sporadically closed the PY07 route, demanding urgent intervention from the Ministry of Agriculture to establish a base price that is fair and respected in the market. Aldo Vera, one of the leaders of these protests, stated that they are holding talks with officials from the aforementioned ministry to address this problem, which directly affects the livelihood of producers.

On the other hand, the cassava producers of Chino Cue stated that they will not lift the force measures until a minimum payment of 1,000 guaraníes per kilo is guaranteed on the farms.
