As announced by the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA), $10,000 bills with images of María Remedios del Valle and Manuel Belgrano will soon begin to circulate. There are some 770 million papers that were ordered from the state printing company China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation (CBPM). While the $20,000 one, with the image of Juan Bautista Alberdi, would only enter the system closer to the end of the year.
Until now, the largest denomination bill circulating in the country is the $2,000 bill with the portraits of Dr. Ramón Carrillo, Dr. Cecilia Grierson and the Malbrán Institute.
The new species will retain the size of the bills in circulation and will be printed on cotton paper, with their traditional safeguards such as the watermark and security thread. In turn, through special printing systems, security elements will be incorporated that will be intended mainly for the general public, but will also allow machine recognition, reported Infobae.
As indicated by the BCRA in a statement, the issuance of these denominations will facilitate transactions between users, make the logistics of the financial system more efficient and will significantly reduce the costs of acquiring finished banknotes.
“With the purpose of saving costs and shortening production times, the Board of Directors decided to use existing designs belonging to the ‘Heroínas y Héroes de la Patria’ family for the new banknotes,” added the entity led by Santiago Bausili.
The banknote designs are not yet public, for security reasons. Only sketches leaked last year are known that give guidance regarding what the final format will be. They had been designed to replace smaller denomination issues: for example, the $10,000 bill was going to be a new version of the $500 bill that circulates today with images of jaguars. The final details with security measures, effigies and other motifs reflected on them will be made public by the BCRA when they are released.
