Milei defends his adjustment plan in the face of criticism from Kirchner

The former president of Argentina Cristina Kirchner accused Javier Milei of subjecting the people to a “useless sacrifice” in pursuit of a zero fiscal deficit, a statement that the president responded by blaming Kirchnerism for leaving “a country destroyed.”

“People are starving because for decades you defended a model that was based on spending without limits and falsifying money to cover the hole. The result is a destroyed country with 60% poor,” said the far-right president.

This Saturday, Kirchner accused Milei of “anarcho-colonialism,” making a play on words with the doctrine he advocates, anarcho-capitalism, and asked him for “a change of direction” in his adjustment policies.

In her first public and in-person event since the change of Government on December 10 between the Peronist Alberto Fernández, of whom she was vice president (2019-2023), and Milei, Kirchner referred to the speech offered on the national network days ago by the president to announce the fiscal and financial surplus achieved in the first quarter of 2024 as a product of his drastic adjustment plan and which, according to her, “has no basis.”

In her speech lasting an hour and a half, which took place at the inauguration of the Presidente Néstor Kirchner Microstadium, in the town of Quilmes (province of Buenos Aires), the former president indicated that she does not question Milei’s legitimacy as president, because she recognizes “how unappealable the popular vote is.”
