MEXICO CITY (apro).- Violeta Vázquez Rojas Maldonado, researcher at the College of Mexico (Colmex) and coordinator of the Government Axis “Social Rights, Welfare and Reduction of Inequality” of the campaign team of Claudia Sheinbaum, presidential candidate of Morena -PT-PVEM, presented the 12 points that make up the strategy to reduce extreme poverty in Mexico.
These 12 action points are listed below:
- Creation of a pension for women aged 60 to 64, which in 2025 would benefit one million women, a figure that will gradually increase until reaching universal coverage.
- Grant all boys and girls the ”Scholarship for Well-being in Basic Education”, whose objective is to benefit 24 million basic education students in public schools.
- Strengthen the ”Program for the Welfare of Sons and Daughters of Workers”, increasing the number of people who receive this support.
- Establish the ”Special Program for the Social and Labor Security of Day Laborers in Agriculture and Fishing”, to guarantee that those who work in these sectors have access to social security, which translates into health and education services. .
- Creation of the ”National Care System”, to support families, women farmers and maquila workers, as well as to provide care for early childhood.
- Maintain and strengthen all existing welfare programs, such as the pension for the Welfare of the Elderly; for People with Disabilities; Benito Juárez Scholarships; Sowing Life, among others.
- Increase existing social programs annually and guarantee that increases are higher than inflation.
- Maintain annual increases in the minimum wage and ensure that this increase is greater than inflation, as well as that it is established in consensus with workers and employers.
- Guarantee fair salaries for strategic professions, such as basic level teachers, police officers, national guards, members of the Armed Forces, doctors and nurses.
- Provide Social Security for Platform Workers (apps) giving almost half a million people who work as drivers and delivery people all labor rights.
- Expansion of access to rights such as education, health and housing.
- Implementation of the ”National Strategy to Avoid Extreme Poverty”, based on coordination mechanisms between authorities and levels of government; strengthening of all social programs and monitoring protocols.
