Based on the 2022 Indonesian Community Digital Literacy Index Survey conducted by the Ministry of Communication and Information and the Katadata Insight Center in 2021, it was stated that Indonesia was still in the “medium” category with a figure of 3.49 out of 5.00. Digital literacy activities in the educational environment are one of the Ministry of Communication and Information’s efforts to accelerate digital transformation in the education sector towards a #MakinCakapDigital Indonesia.
Chip’s talk show activity began with remarks from the Directorate General of Technology, Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, who conveyed the importance of preparing Indonesian digital talent to be able to take advantage of developments in digital technology and have the ability to overcome the risks that arise with it. Semuel conveyed the four main pillars of digital literacy, namely Digital Skills, Digital Culture, Digital Ethics and Digital Security.
The second speech and opening of the activity was by the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi who online conveyed the economic benefits of digital literacy activities, such as increasing workforce competency and community participation in digital economy-based activities. The Minister of Communication and Information also invited all levels of society to actively participate in various digital literacy activities to make Indonesia connected and more advanced.
Chip’s talk show activity aims to provide education about digital literacy in a way that is easy for students to accept. The talk show session began with the screening of an animated video entitled “4 Steps for Digital Literacy”. The four steps in question are Interaction, Participation, Collaboration and Self-Control so that students #MainCakapDigital.
An explanation about digital literacy was then delivered by three resource persons guided by the moderator. The first presentation was delivered by UNJ lecturer and Digital Literacy Activist Network Nugrahaeni Prananingrum.
Nugrahaeni expressed the importance of being a cultured student on social media. The first principle that students must apply as internet users, especially social media, is that before writing something, we must first think about what impact it will have. So, whatever we do we have to think and participate well.
Second, according to Nugrahaeni, is honesty and responsibility. Understand etiquette or etiquette in the digital world. We must become an Indonesian society with Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, both in the real world and in the digital world. And ensure the validity of the news received, whether it comes from a credible and trusted source, and don’t easily spread the news before ensuring its validity.
“It’s etiquette in the digital world to be wary of negative content. This is related to conversations about digital regulations and norms and literacy regarding the ITE Constitution. “It’s ethical to create an account using your real identity, especially when we’re studying in class, don’t make any ethical mistakes,” concluded Nugrahaeni.
Meanwhile, the second resource person at the talk show chip in “Digital Track Record in the Education Realm”, Literacy Activist and Social Advocacy Ari Ujito explained to students about digital safety so that they are safe on social media. Digital security is a process to ensure that the use of digital services, both online and non-online, can be done safely. Not only does it protect the data we have, email also protects personal data confidentially.
